Nature is not more beautiful than civilization

Nature is a dangerous place.

Why do we in civilization insist on asserting that it is instead some beautiful mystic place? It’s the reason we developed civilization. Reread and think about that for just a moment: It is the reason we developed civilization... To protect us from the dangers “out there”.

Animals and plants are torturing and killing each other all day and night. Plants are just as alive as animals, so why do people pretend a deer or a dog is any more valuable than the life of a blade of grass or a head of lettuce?

Honestly, You are disassociating. It’s natural to do that. I wouldn’t dream of eating my dog but I don’t mind eating a salad or bacon. It’s survival of the fittest. Our species happens to be at the top. We can do what we want- including destroying the planet in spades. That is nature. Humans are not immune. We just forgot out of pure disassociation.

There are plants that eat living creatures that crawl onto them, so don’t tell me it’s different. Plants kill animals, too. That beautiful tomato plant is a carnivorous thing, so when you eat tomatoes you partake in the killing of tiny bugs.

I am tired of the world lying to itself to make us feel something we don’t deserve to feel. You should not feel proud for not eating meat nor proud that you spent a day in nature relaxing. You should just consider yourself lucky to have the opportunity to do as you wish thanks to civilization.

Civilization made houses, doctors, plumbing, the internet, harnessed electricity, tamed wolves into dogs, trained people to fly rescue helicopters, and all those other little things you take for granted... like running water, farm tools and air conditioning.

Civilization is just as dangerous as nature. Because it is still nature, a modified version. Just as in the jungle or mountains, the city follows the same rules of survival - the survivors are the fittest in their environment. Read things, watch things, observe things and actually think about them. Simply wishing we lived in some unattainable murder free, vegan society, where everyone wants your hug and no disease exists and alligators don’t bite is the definition of a grandiose personality disorder. Don't become that.

If you can, try to think about everything you do with an unbiased sense, not a do-no-harm sense. You cannot live without doing harm. It is scientifically impossible.  If you would rather be ignorant and happy than you will be, no one can stop you from preserving ignorance. I just don't personally think it's a good trade and I'd rather read, consider, reread, and reconsider.
