A Lesser Known But Ultimately Powerful Mandela Quote

There's one story that spoke to me very strongly. It's just one of those things that takes your breath away. Like when you hear something that is just so extraordinary, you suddenly feel very small but also feel that it gives you the power to be that big.

It was something that Mandela said to a boy that was overheard by a photographer (Pulitzer prize winner, David Turnley.)

Two boys had the opportunity to sit with Mandela and one boy asked Mandela "How could they put you in prison for 27 years? You've never stolen anything.

Mandela answered the boy with something remarkable. He said;  "Sweetheart, I actually have stolen something. I stole freedom for our people."

That statement floored me. It's so simple and profound. Freedom is not free. It is the most expensive treasure on earth and it can only be stolen from those that keep it guarded. I am so grateful to people like Mandela that have lived throughout time and have stolen, are stealing, and will steal freedom for all of us. Thank you.
