The Known Universe

The launch of space shuttle Atlantis on its STS-132 mission to the International Space Station is planned for Friday May 14th at 2:20pm EDT.

Why am I telling you this?  Because on May 19th I will be at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston tweeting all about the mission. (To my friends- I'll wave to you live from http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nasa-television between 8-10am)

What's the mission, you say? The space shuttle Atlantis is embarking on its FINAL planned mission.

For 12 days, Atlantis and six veteran astronauts (Ken Ham, Tony Antonelli, Michael Good, Garrett Reisman, Piers Sellers and Steve Bowen) will fly to the International Space Station, leaving behind a Russian Mini Research Module, a set of batteries for the station's truss and dish antenna, and other miscellaneous replacement parts.

They're planning three spacewalks and tons of robotics so this isn't something you want to miss (especially the docking of the Russian ISS module, in my opinion.)

To keep up to date with the mission follow me on Twitter @SunGoneNova and @nasatweetup/jsc-sts-130-tweetup during the Wednesday, May 19th event.

And follow the NASA Kennedy Center Tweetup participants as they experience the launch on Friday May 14th by visiting @nasatweetup-sts-132-launch

Or if you prefer to thoroughly immerse yourself- you can watch it all day on my favorite channel NASA TV
